What length are the stock cables?
I measured all the cables and here are the lengths in inches.
Dimensions are from the ends of the cable housings, not the cable ends. Brake is from end to end.
First is Sabre, second is Spirit:
| Clutch | 48 | 52 3/8 |
| Choke | 38 3/4 | 42 1/2 |
| Throttle(s) | 37 | 40 |
| Brake | 42 | 49 5/8 |
The brake cable is not the Spirit but the stainless one I got from Access. Int. where I requeseted stock plus 6 inches. I guess they added even more to that but it seems to be OK.
Just a few things about changing out handle bars. stock bars are 36" wide, 4" up and 6" pull back. If you go to bars that are different, first thing to do is calculate how much longer the brake line, cables(all of them) and wires will have to be so you can turn stop to stop with out stretching something to tight and perhaps cause a failure or even worse, a crash.
For every inch up you add 1", for every inch back you add 1". So lets say you found the perfect bars and they are 6"up and 8" pull back but only 34" wide. you have increased the height by 2" and the pull back by 2" but you have also given back 2" in width. saftey says, a little long is far better than just a tad short. However we want those cables and brake lines to look right too, so the cables will need to be 4" longer but you could use 3" longer instead and route them behind the trees for a bit cleaner look and still not have to worry about fit. When in doubt, the best method is to measure with a piece of plastic tubing. Use a strip of duct tape to hold the tube in place on the grip connection, then route the tube the way you want the cable/line to follow to the fitting. Mark with a second strip of tape and now you can pull it out and get an accurate measurement for the new cable/line.
