Where can I get a chin spoiler for a Sabre?
You have two options for adding a chin spoiler to your Sabre:
- You can get one from Accessories International, it's the Targa one for the Ace 1100, there is no spoiler for the Sabre. Ask for Al , he can help you out. Some modification needed, nothing serious though.
- Use a spoiler from a VTX. You can't use any of the mounting points called for on the VTX because, you guessed it, they're not the same on the Sabre. I was able to use only the left and right mounting brackets and tossed the middle one since there isn't anyway short of welding to attach it. The spoiler is real light, and so far, using just the left and right brackets seems plenty strong enough.
On the right side, I unbolted the horn and moved it out of the way (reinstalled it later in the stock position). The right bracket has two mounting holes but as far as I could see you can only use the upper of the two in the Sabre. Mounted it to one of the twelve millimeter black engine block bolts (it's the only one the reaches and on my bike had two factory installed washers underneath the bolt head and I reinstalled these). The left side requires disconnecting the linkage and upper foot /throttle peddle bracket plate bolt and pivoting the bracket out of the way. I could then remove the lower of two side 12MM frame bolts (the upper of these two is the throttle bracket plate bolt). It is also the only one with an exposed head on the lower out frame. I then drilled out the frame mount hole in the bracket to match the frame bolt diameter.
Also, I could not use either of the pre-drilled holes in the side of the spoiler and drilled new holes to line up with the re-located mounts. Since I aligned the front upper edge of spoiler to match the lower edge of my afermarket chrome radiator cover, it may not be neccessary to redrill the mounting holes with a stock radiator. I used the longer 10MM bolts from the installation kit to attach the spoiler to the side mount brackets but these would look better in black. Will probably just paint mine.
The VTX radiator must be a little wider than the Sabres, but if you shim the two side mounts you can get it to line up pretty nice. Unless you look close you can't tell that it wasn't made for the Sabre and mine came factory pre-painted in the high quality gloss black that just happens to match the fastest Sabre color!.
