Check and Replace Final Drive Oil

Preparation
First make sure you have the required Final Drive oil. Hypoid gear oil - SAE 80 is recommended.

- drain bolt
- oil filler cap / hole
Checking and Adding Oil
- Place the motorcycle on its side stand on a firm, level surface.
- Remove the oil filler cap (2).
- Check the oil level. It should be flush with the lower edge of the oil filler hole (2).
- If the level is low, check for leaks. Add the recommended oil through the oil filler hole until it reaches the lower edge of the opening.
- Install the oil filler cap.
Changing Oil
Change the oil with the final drive at normal operating temperature to assure complete and rapid draining.
- Place the motorcycle on its side stand on a firm, level surface.
- Place a drain pan under the drain bolt (1).
- Remove the cap from the oil filler hole (2) and the drain bolt (1).
- After the oil has completely drained, check that the sealing washer (on drain bolt) is in good condition. Reinstall the drain bolt, with sealing washer (or a new washer, if necessary) and tighten it to the specified torque: ( 9 ft-lb ).
- Fill the final drive with the recommended oil: 4.4 US oz
Make sure the final drive oil level is at the lower edge of the oil filler inspection hole (2). - Install the oil filler cap
