These are instructions for painting flames onto a 2000+ Honda Shadow Sabre. The methods can likely be adapted to other bikes. Keep in mind that the Sabre has a plastic bucket that makes painting more condusive. A true metal/chrome bucket will need more work in order to ensure the durability of the paint.

  1. Remove headlight from bike
  2. Remove chrome trim ring and all internal parts
  3. Using the attached template, trace out flames on contact paper then flip over and trace/cut out other side.
  4. Cut out flames (i.e. Exacto knife)
  5. Wipe down (or wash) headlight bucket with alcohol to get rid of surface contaminates
  6. Cut flames in 2" increments and press onto headlight bucket. The 2" increments helps to prevent the contact paper from bunching up and folding over.
  7. Place contact paper flames over headlight bucket and pressed edges down firmly - lining up edges that you cut. Use a rag to ensure that no edges come up.
  8. Sand the chrome area that is not covered by the contact paper flames w/600 grit paper so the primer would stick. A light fingertip sanding should work fine.
  9. Krylon Fusion white paint acts as a primer and stick to the plastic bucket making this job easier and more durable. 4 extremely thin coats with a quick sand between coats should make for a strong base coat.
  10. Paint the base coat color and top coats and let dry for 2 days.
  11. For added durability, spray with Acrylic clearcoat.
